Dysmorphophobia Is the Fear of Deformity
Dysmorphophobia Is the Fear of Deformity Phobias Types Print The Fear of Deformity Dysmorphophobia is a Term That Encompasses Multiple Fears By Lisa Fritscher Lisa Fritscher is a freelance writer and editor with a deep interest in phobias and other mental health topics. Some people are afraid of becoming deformed or disfigured, while others fear those who have a disfiguring condition. Some expectant parents worry that their child will be born with a deformity. Dysmorphophobia may also be behind some cases of body dysmorphic disorder, a somatoform disorder in which sufferers imagine bodily imperfections.? Fear of Becoming Deformed or Disfigured In todays media-driven culture, it seems there is a cure for virtually anything. Dont like your nose? See a plastic surgeon. Dont like your hair? Buy this dye or that shampoo or have a makeover by a celebrity stylist. Worried about the signs of aging? Creams, specialty soaps, and facelifts are at your beck and call. While its perfectly natural to want to look and feel your best, the constant media hype is focused on a virtually unattainable ideal of youth and beauty. Against this backdrop, it is easy for even normal, healthy physical characteristics to be seen as something to get rid of rather than to celebrate. Of course, most people are able to maintain a healthy perspective. For some, however, a natural concern for health and vigor can develop into an unhealthy obsession. In addition, throughout much of history, those with deformities or disfigurements were discriminated against, locked up or even accused of witchcraft. Public shaming, display in human zoos or freak shows and crude medical treatments were frighteningly common. In extreme cases, children and adults with deformities were sometimes put to death. Although modern societies have largely moved beyond these measures, people with disfiguring conditions may have trouble obtaining employment, gaining respect or finding a mate, even today. Children and adults may be shunned, finding it difficult to make friends or become community leaders. Fear of Others With a Deformity or Disfigurement This form of dysmorphophobia may be rooted in a myriad of other fears. Xenophobia (fear of strangers) may be partly to blame. Humans have a strong tendency to self-select into groups based on commonalities. Families, tribes, communities, religious groups, and nations have long served the critical functions of providing safety and security, promoting the groups interests and working together to achieve common goals. Those who are isolated or cut off from these units often face increased danger and limited opportunities. One of the easiest ways to form group loyalty is to cast those who do not fit in as the other. This strengthens group unity and encourages bonding. But when taken too far, it can have damaging and wide-reaching effects, leading to hate, shunning and even violence. More often, though, this tendency to reject the unfamiliar leads to mistrust, discomfort, and exclusion. As deformities and disfigurements are relatively rare, xenophobia towards people with these conditions may simply be due to a lack of familiarity or exposure. For many people, an initially uncomfortable reaction is easily changed simply by getting to know someone with a deformity on a personal level. In some cases, the fear of deformity in others is based on medical fears. Those suffering from germ phobia, hypochondria or nosophobia may be at particular risk for this type of fear, but it can occur in anyone. Some disfigurements are caused by communicable diseases such as leprosy. Although these diseases are now readily treatable, they have been stigmatized for centuries. A lack of understanding may increase the fear of other peoples deformities or disfigurements. Fear of Bearing a Deformed Child Throughout history, particular significance has been placed on deformed infants. At various times and in various cultures, these children have been seen as curses or signs of evil. Sometimes they were viewed as a sign that the mother was a witch. Sometimes they were seen as harbingers of an upcoming fire, flood or other natural disaster. In some cases, the child itself was seen as a demonic creature. Although most modern societies no longer believe in ancient superstitions, great pressure remains on parents to deliver a healthy, perfect baby. Many expectant parents worry that a child who is not physically perfect will be shunned or scorned. In addition, some conditions that cause infant or childhood deformity are painful, require extensive corrective surgery or may even lead to a shortened lifespan. Its easy to see how a normal and healthy concern for an unborn childs well-being could develop into an unhealthy phobia of something going wrong. Coping With the Fear of Deformity For many people, the fear of deformity is relatively mild and easy to control. Minor discomfort is often relieved by exposure. Knowing someone with a deformity or disfigurement can help dispel fears based on a lack of understanding. Learning about disfiguring conditions can help curb medically-based fears. If you are an expectant parent concerned about your unborn child, speak with your doctor. Modern medical testing can identify many potentially disfiguring conditions, and advanced technology can correct the vast majority of infant deformities. If your fear is more severe, simple exposure and information-gathering may not be enough. If you find yourself going out of your way to avoid situations that may bring you in contact with a disfigured person, or if you develop an unhealthy obsession with your own appearance or that of a loved one, seek professional assistance. Like most phobias, dysmorphophobia responds well to a variety of common mental-health treatments. Left untreated, the phobia could worsen, gradually limiting your daily life and preventing you from connecting with others.

Credibility is something that takes a lot of time to gain, but can be lost in an instance. When someone or something is credible that means they are easily trusted or believed in because of what they have done in the past. For example Nike lost some credibility when new came out they were producing their products in sweatshops across the world. However since that they have worked on that problem and gained back their credibility, but it took some time. Credibility is a great quality to have, it means you are trustworthy and people respect you. Web Communication and Advertising
The development of online technologies has transformed marketing strategies of many companies; in fact, nowadays it is difficult to find a product that is not advertised via Internet. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Web Communication and Advertising specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, many organizations still underestimate the benefits offered by the World Wide Web. This paper aims to develop an Internet marketing strategy for such a product as mineral water. It is normally advertised through television, radio, and billboards but online channels are seldom used. There are several objectives which have to be attained: 1) to raise the customersââ¬â¢ awareness about the product; 2) to allow the customers make online purchase; 3) to increase the customer base of the company. This internet advertisement will target two types of clients: Individual customers who may be willing to learn more about different c ompanies selling mineral water. Private companies: restaurants, hotels, snack bars, fast food chains that will make wholesale purchase. At this point we can discuss several aspects of online advertising and their importance. One of them is direct e-mail. We are going to use in order to inform our returned customers, most likely, they will be wholesalers, restaurants, hotels about new products, benefits and discounts. It is also necessary to compile a list of prospective companies that may require this kind of product and send them newsletters. One should note that customers should be contacted via e-mail no more than two times per month; otherwise these mails can be regarded as spam. The major benefit of this approach is that it enables the company to raise awareness about the products and about other offerings. Additionally, direct e-mail enables companies to maintain long-term relations with returned customers. Cross-media advertising is another aspect of Internet advertisement t hat one should utilize. Overall, this approach can be regarded as combined use of television, radio, print and video (Chaffey et al, 2009). The distributers of mineral water can successfully adopt this strategy with the help of Internet since nowadays there are many online radio stations or online newspapers; furthermore, one should not forget about online television. Additionally, there are also many video-sharing websites where companies can post their commercials. The producers of mineral water can promote their products through each of these media. Cross-media advertisement is important for the attraction of new customers. By adopting this approach, the companies can reach a wide target audience (Chaffey et al, 2009, p 180).Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! These banners should be p laced at the websites of online newspapers and Internet forums. The banners should emphasize some distinguishing properties of the product such as the benefits for health of the consumers, its taste and certainly the price. In this case, the main objective of this strategy is to attract the customerââ¬â¢s attention to the product (Belch Belch, 2009). Furthermore, the banners must provide links to the website of the company. It will be particularly relevant for private companies that may be searching for the information about different producers of mineral water. In this way, they will be able to make online wholesale purchases. Banner advertising is important to that extent that it serves different purposes at a time: first, it enables the company to increase people awareness about the company and most importantly form the customersââ¬â¢ initial perception of the product. Prior to launching an Internet marketing campaign, the company should accurately determine the target m arket. As it has been mentioned before, the producers of mineral water should address the needs of individual clients and profit organizations like restaurants, hotels. The potential consumers of this product can be of different age, sex, income level, values or occupation. Therefore, one should not give preference to only one type of websites. Thus, the advertisements should be placed at forums, social networks, web directories, website of different newspapers, etc. The identification of target market is crucial for a company because one has to understand the purchasing habits of the customers. The key advantage of Internet marketing is that it can allow us to target different groups of customers, depending on their age or occupation. We need to mention some other elements of an Internet marketing strategy; they are public relations (PR) and promotions. The manufacturers of mineral water should maintain their public image by providing information about themselves at their website s. They need to focus on such issues the technology that they use, the quality standards, health benefits that they offer to the customers.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Web Communication and Advertising specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In the age corporate social responsibility PR management can play the most crucial role. Its purpose is to ensure that customers take positive attitude to the firm. PR campaign has to convince them that the company cares not only about profit-making but also about the community. At the beginners companies producing mineral water should choose above the line promotion which means that they need to pay a specific agency (online newspaper, forum, social network, video-sharing website) for the placement of the commercial (Jones, 2007). At this particular stage, they need to attract the customersââ¬â¢ attention to the brand. The selection of promotion strategy is crucial for the formation of brand identity; in other words, they aim to make the name of the company as well as its products recognizable. The enterprises which intend to sell mineral water have to conduct Internet marketing research. In particular it is necessary to conduct survey among the customers and ask them about those qualities which they value most in this type of product or why they select a specific product among many others. Critical Thinking Scenario Essays - Organ Trade, Medical Ethics
Critical Thinking Scenario Essays - Organ Trade, Medical Ethics Critical Thinking Scenario Ethics and Social Responsibility/ETH316 After reading the transcript from ABC News regarding the story Blood Money I realized that some people will see the story differently, some might find it offensive while others might not find it offensive. The ethical issue concerning this article is the illegal kidneys and other organ sales that are going on in China and the USA. These kidneys and other organs are coming from incarcerated men and women who have been found guilty of some sort of crime and are being executed and their organs are being removed and sold on the black market. Morally everyone is different and the persons involved in this article have no morals. The persons selling the organs might see it as that the prisoners are being put to death anyway so they might as well help someone out that needs the organ. They should have given the prisoner the opportunity to make their own decision as to whether or not they wanted their kidneys or organs removed and not just taken them because of the money they received. These people with direct interest in this illegal market have a lot of moral failings; the fact that you are doing this to make a profit and you see no wrong in what you are doing is failing. How many of these prisoners were put to death for minor crimes just to sell their body parts to the highest bidder. There is no respect for the lives of these prisoners. The ideal in this black market is to make money and not letting it be known what is really going on in China or the USA. Their obligations are to continue to convict and execute these people so that they never run out of body parts to sell. They are screening these prisoners to make sure they are healthy enough to sell their parts to the persons that need them. This whole operation was welled planned. The sellers are looking at as though they are saving someone else life. The best outcome in this given circumstances is that this black market selling is now know to all to view and make ethical judgments. This will make the ones think about what they will do when it comes time for making moral decision and well as the doctors and Chinese military who are involved. In conclusion, after seeing China being exposed to other countries with this black market selling of body parts maybe this will get China to be more moral when it comes to making decision about executing these prisoners for their organs for money. The selling of organs will never go away as long as people are willing to pay for them and only care about their selves. References Boylan, M. (2009). Basic ethics: Basic ethics in action (2nd ed.). Rousseaus Thoughts on Women and Education
Rousseau's Thoughts on Women and Education Jean-Jacques Rousseau is considered one of the key Enlightenment philosophers, and his writings reveal that he was concerned with ââ¬Å"equality among men,â⬠but he certainly did not make womens equality his focus. Having lived from 1712 to 1778, Rousseau was a major influence on the intellectual thinking of the 18th century. He inspired the political activism that led to the French Revolution and influenced Kantââ¬â¢s view of ethics, rooting them in human nature. His 1762 treatise Emile, or on Education and his book The Social Contract influenced philosophies about education and politics, respectively. Rousseaus main argument has been summarized as ââ¬Å"man is good but has been corrupted by social institutions.â⬠He also wrote that ââ¬Å"nature has created man happy and good, but society depraves him and makes him miserable. The experiences of women, however, did not inspire this degree of contemplation from Rousseau, who essentially deemed them the weaker sex, content to be dependent upon men. Rousseaus Contradictory Views on Women While Rousseau is often praised for his views on human equality, the reality is that he did not believe women deserved equality. According to Rousseau, women needed to rely on men for their wellbeing because they were less rational than men. He argued that men might have desired women but did not need them to survive, while women both desired men and needed them. In Emile, he writes about the difference between what he believes women and men need in education. Since the main purpose in life, to Rousseau, is for a woman to be a wife and mother, she doesnt need to be educated to the extent that men traditionally have. He argues: ââ¬Å"Once it is demonstrated that man and woman are not, and should not be constituted the same, either in character or in temperament, it follows that they should not have the same education. In following the directions of nature they must act together but they should not do the same things; their duties have a common end, but the duties themselves are different and consequently also the tastes that direct them. After having tried to form the natural man, let us also see, in order not to leave our work incomplete, how the woman is to be formed who suits this man.â⬠Some critics view Emile as evidence that Rousseau thought woman should be subservient to man, while others contended that he was writing ironically. Some have also pointed out the fundamental contradiction in Emile about women and education. In this work, Rousseau suggests that women are responsible for educating the young while arguing that they are incapable of reason. ââ¬Å"The whole education of women ought to be relative to men. To please them, to be useful to them, to make themselves loved and honored by them, to educate them when young... How can women educate anyone, even young children, if they themselves lack reasoning skills? Rousseaus views about women arguably grew more complex with age. In Confessions, which he wrote later in life, he credits several women with helping him gain entrance into the intellectual circles of society. Clearly, smart women had played a role in his own development as a scholar. Mary Wollstonecrafts Case Against Rousseau Mary Wollstonecraft addresses some of the points Rousseau made about women in Vindication of the Rights of Woman and other writings in which she asserts that women are logical and can benefit from education. She questions whether a womanââ¬â¢s purpose is only the pleasure of men. She also directly addresses Rousseau when she writes with great irony of his affection for an uneducated and ignorant servant girl. ââ¬Å"Who ever drew a more exalted female character than Rousseau? Though in the lump he constantly endeavoured to degrade the sex. And why was he thus anxious? Truly to justify to himself the affection which weakness and virtue had made him cherish for that fool Theresa. He could not raise her to the common level of her sex; and therefore he labored to bring woman down to hers. He found her a convenient humble companion, and pride made him determine to find some superiour virtues in the being whom he chose to live with; but did not her conduct during his life, and after his death, clearly show how grossly he was mistaken who called her a celestial innocent.â⬠The Difference Between Men and Women Rousseaus views on women invited criticism, but the scholar himself acknowledged that he had no solid foundation for his arguments about the differences between the sexes. He wasnt sure what biological differences made women and men distinct, calling them one of degree. But these differences, he believed, were enough to suggest that men should be strong and active, and women should be weak and passive. He wrote: If woman is made to please and to be subjugated to man, she ought to make herself pleasing to him rather than to provoke him; her particular strength lies in her charms; by their means she should compel him to discover his own strength and put it to use. The surest art of arousing this strength is to render it necessary by resistance. Thus pride reinforces desire and each triumphs in the others victory. From this originates attack and defense, the boldness of one sex and the timidity of the other and finally the modesty and shame with which nature has armed the weak for the conquest of the strong. The Link Between Opportunity and Female Heroism Before Emile, Rousseau listed the numerous woman heroes whod impacted society. He discusses Zenobia, Dido, Lucretia, Joan of Arc, Cornelia, Arria, Artemisia, Fulvia, Elisabeth, and the Countess of Thà ¶kà ¶ly. The contributions of heroines should not be overlooked. If women had had as great a share as we do in the handling of business, and in the governments of Empires, perhaps they would have pushed Heroism and greatness of courage farther and would have distinguished themselves in greater number. Few of those who have had the good fortune to rule states and command armies have remained in mediocrity; they have almost all distinguished themselves by some brilliant point by which they have deserved our admiration for themâ⬠¦. I repeat it, all proportions maintained, women would have been able to give greater examples of greatness of soul and love of virtue and in greater number than men have ever done if our injustice had not despoiled, along with their freedom, all the occasions manifest them to the eyes of the world. Here, Rousseau makes it plain that if given the opportunity to shape society as men had, women could very well change the world. Whatever biological differences between men and women existed, the so-called weaker sex had shown repeatedly that they were capable of greatness.

History- Modern latin america Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
History- Modern latin america - Essay Example It gives a spine chilling experience about disappearance of victims and resistance organized by their mothers and relatives in Argentina. The military rulers in the country followed the Nazis ideology or the doctrine of night and fog developed by Adolph Hitler. The doctrine of national security was the new name of brutal law used exclusively for secret kidnapping and detention and murder in the country. The rulers followed the strategy of doing all these acts secretly. The kidnapping was done without much publicity, and detention and subsequent killing were made at secret centers only known to the military. The families of the victims were terrorized through these acts and they feared of complaining because of the fact that complainants would be the next victims. Therefore there was a silence from the relatives of victims which otherwise made them in a situation to kill themselves. The vanishing created terror within the population, but without finding the bodies, no one could be bla med. Silence increased the atmosphere of terror as well as hopelessness. It placed a cruel burden on the families of the disappeared. Moreover they were made to feel in some sense responsible. It became one of the more subtle and complex mechanisms of torture for the relatives.

Business Plan and Business Planning Process Essay
Business Plan and Business Planning Process - Essay Example In this write-up, Stutleyââ¬â¢s assertion that ââ¬Å"The chief executive of the business or business unit should take overall responsibility for the plan, but the best business plans are developed by the wholeâ⬠¦.for an enterprise-wide plan, all departmentsâ⬠¦should contribute to the planning process and the final documentationâ⬠(2007, 17) shall be linked to how an all-inclusive policy in the construction of a business plan can lead to successes for companies. Difference between business plan and business planning process Ward (2000) explains that ââ¬Å"a business plan is a document that summarizes the operational and financial objectives of a business and contains the detailed plans and budgets showing how the objectives are to be realized.â⬠Giving a closely related definition, Berry (2011) explains that ââ¬Å"a business plan is any plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocates resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities.â⬠On the other hand, Gleeson (2011) posits that ââ¬Å"the business plan process is simply the steps you go through and actions you take when producing a business plan.â⬠From these definitions, the differences that can be drawn between a business plan and the business planning process are that whereas a business plan is a document, the business planning process is an action. Again, whereas a business plan is an end product, the business planning process is a means to an end and is actually the means that results in a busine ss plan. To this effect, it can be said that an effect business planning process leads to a workable and effective business plan.

African Elephant :: essays papers
African Elephant The common name is the African Elephant, the scientific name is Loxodonta Africana, the phylum is Vertebrata, the class is Mammalia, the order is Proboscidea, and the family is Elephantidae. The Closest Relatives to the African Elephant are: the Asian Elephant, mammoths, primitive proboscidean (mastodons), sea cows, and hyraxes. Scientists believe that the African Elephant evolved from one of its closest relatives, the Sea Cow. The geographical location and range of the African elephant covers all of central and southern Africa. In Ethiopia there are isolated populations that exist around Lake Chad in Mali and Mauritania. Also in Kenya, Rhodesia, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, Zaire, and in National parks located in South Africa, as well as several other countries. African Elephants, originally, were found in all of the Sub-Saharan African habitats except desert steppes. Elephants still occupy diverse habitats such as: temperate grassland, tropical savanna and grass lands, temperate fores t and rainforest, tropical rainforest, tropical scrub forest, and tropical deciduous forest despite their drastic decline in numbers. However, their migratory patterns and habitat use have changed, due to the fact that they are restricted to protected areas. The elephant can exist in many types of environments but it prefers places that have many trees and bushes, which the elephant needs both for food and shade. They also like warm areas that have plenty of rainfall. This ensures plenty of food, shade, and water. The elephant prefers a habitat of mixed woodland and grassland which gives them an opportunity to eat a variety of vegetation. African Elephants are considered herbivores, they are both browsers and grazers; they will eat rough sticks, stems and leaves of plants as well as grasses, sedges, and fruit. Their favorites are mangoes, berries and coconuts. An elephant eats up to 500 pounds of vegetation every day and drinks up to 50 gallons of water daily. Elephants must consume these giant quantities of food, due to their poor digestive system. The small intestine is 82 feet long, the large intestine 21 feet long, and the rectum adds a further 13 feet. The problem with the digestive tract lies in their gut; elephants have too few symbiotic bacteria. These are the organisms which help break down the cellulose of plant cell walls by producing enzymes called cellulases. The most remarkable feature of the elephantââ¬â¢s digestive system is its 5 feet long appendix, bigger than the stomach.

Pepsi Marketing Essay
Supermodel, entrepreneur, actress, Cindy Crawford has been promoting the OMEGA brand since 1995. Her striking beauty and international appeal are the perfect complement to OMEGAââ¬â¢s image. Cindy even helped to design a collection dedicated to her: the Constellation My Choice. PEPSI: Todayââ¬â¢s PepsiCo, Inc. was found in 1965 through the merger of Pepsi Co and Frito-Lay, the worldââ¬â¢s largest manufacturer and distributor of snack chips. In 1998, it acquired Tropicana, the worldââ¬â¢s largest marketer and producer of branded juices. In addition to the main body of 3 companies, the Pepsi-Cola Incorporation also owns four well-known fast food restaurants in the world; they are Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, and Burger King. Furthermore, with its 4 fast food restaurants, PepsiCo Inc. owns 24,000 restaurants, more than McDonaldââ¬â¢s 14,000. Based on PepsiCo Incs annual report in year 2000, PepsiCo Inc. has total net sales of 20.438 billion US dollars and they are worth 44 billion dollars in stock value right now. There are several reasons why the worldââ¬â¢s second largest soft-drink company, the PepsiCo Inc., is very successful in the world and almost exceed the current market leader in soft drink industry, Coca-Cola. These reasons are taste, investment, management policy, and marketing strategy. In this report, we will put our main focus on marketing strategies and more details analysis, such as 4Ps (product, price, place, promotion), SWOT analysis (strength, weakness, opportunity, threaten), Marketing Environment (economic, technological, cultural, social, and competitor), advertising, and target market, etc. First element of 4Ps is product. With more and more customersãÆ' » unique needs, besides its regular Pepsi, it adds regular caffeine-free Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Diet Caffeine-free Pepsi, Wild Cherry Pepsi, and Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi into its product lines. Its Diet Pepsi is even the first of its kind in Cola market. For the price, based on the laws of demand and supply, price plays a very important role in customersãÆ' » initial purchase. In addition, psychologically speaking, customersãÆ' » have such mentality to judge a productãÆ' »s quality by its price. Therefore, Pepsi has to determine its price very carefully. If the products are wrongly priced, either damage to its reputation on quality or lost of sale due to high price will be resulted. However, Pepsi seems to do fine at the moment. Based on their corporate pricing policy, providing quality products at lowest possible price has always been one of their main concerns. For example, in some parts of the country, a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi costs 99 cents a decade ago and still does today. As for the place, it has to get the right target market and has to be available when customers need. Pepsi has done a great work on the place, because their channels of distribution certainly provide their products at any market in the American very successfully. Last and the most important element of 4 Ps is promotion. It is so important because how they promote their products will affect how successful their message will be delivered to their target audiences. In 1963, they created a new product policy that is called ï ¼Å¡The Pepsi of new generationï ¼âº. They focus on customerãÆ' »s needs and wants. Also, they try to make people memorize their product. Lots of soft drink customers do not have so-called royalty toward certain brand. Such issue was well noted by PepsiCo Inc. and decides to change customersãÆ' » buying habit. During that time, ï ¼Å¡The Pepsi of new generationï ¼âº is a very successful campaign until 1988. After that, they have changed the marketing scheme to ï ¼Å¡The Choice of a New Generationï ¼âº and still using the same process today. Right now, Pepsi has a special campaign called ï ¼Å¡The Pepsi Challengeï ¼âº that gets a lot of attention from people and offers a good opportunity for Pepsi to earn more profit. In 1974, this promotion also works very well in Kansas. Advertisement is another promotion; they usually focus on the teenager. From Electric Youth to Generation next, Pepsi has had its finger on the youth pulse of every decade. In their advertisings and target markets, they always use idols to catch teenagersãÆ' » attention. For example, in 1984 to 1999, they use Michael Jackson and Ray Charles etc. to be PepsiãÆ' »s spokespersons. In 2001, they have signed a 100-million-dollars contract with Britney Spears to be PepsiãÆ' »s next spokesperson. The SWOT analysis is another important concept in the marketing. The strength of the Pepsi is his strong, well-recognized brands. Pepsi-Cola owns many of the worldãÆ' »s best-loved consumers brands, especially in North America. According to annual report, the percentage of the total sales volume is 45% in North AmericaãÆ' »s market. For many years, Coca-Cola still has a great position in the American. As a result, if Pepsi-Cola wants to replace the number one position that is a very hard task, and also a big weakness for Pepsi-Cola. Even though PepsiCo has better total sales than Coca Cola (20.4 billion vs. 16.2 billion), however, the market value of the whole company is just about half of Coca Cola (44 billion vs. 93 billion). The main reason is that PepsiCo has its foot into fast food market. Furthermore, the profit margin they make is not even one third of current market leader in fast food industry-McDonald (4% vs. 15%). Pepsi-Cola has launched a campaign called ï ¼Å¡The Pepsi Challengeï ¼âº that gives Pepsi-Cola a good opportunity, because they might get more customers to accept the products and gain the sales revenue for Pepsi-Cola. Because there are a lot of competitors in the soft-drink industry, these competitors often introduce new tastes from time to time and customers have the tendency of trying new tastes while PepsiCo Inc has limited product lines in soft drink despite the fact that they have already have juices, root bear, ice teas, etc. Needless to say, this is a very big threaten to the Pepsi-Cola. The economic environment can affect Pepsi-Cola very significantly. If we have bad economic situation, people will watch their own packet more carefully and, in turn, the sales revenue is the first thing to suffer. Although such impact might not be very severe to PepsiCo because Cola can be seen as a daily necessity in American, yet, they still have to keep close watch. The 270 million people in America consume about 28 million cases of Pepsi Cola annually. In American culture, and its social environment, Pepsi-Cola doesnãÆ' »t need to have a significant change since Pepsi-Cola is a very traditional favor. As a result, Pepsi-Cola Company should focus on two main things- get peopleãÆ' »s attention and create the ï ¼Å¡Needï ¼âº. Our technology environment is growing very fast and so does Pepsi-Cola in its technology to operate their products. Pepsi Company always builds their products at highest quality and catches up with the new technology. Pepsi can always be peopleãÆ' »s favorite; because Pepsi Company always adapts whatever new technology is available in the market today. In competitor environment, we know that Pepsi-Cola Company face three main competitors: Coca-Cola, Quaker Oats, and Cadbury Schweppes. As stated by the President of Pepsi ï ¼Å¡in the Cola War, there is never a winner. It is not important whether you win or lose; the more important is that to have fun in the Cola Warï ¼âº. Conclusion At the start of this review, I mentioned the fact that I have recently started to look more at the value for money end of the market, or if you will, lower priced end of the market. Having worn the Zeno for a few months I have to say that I suspect that there are some pleasant surprises for those who donââ¬â¢t want to spend a fortune on a watch but want something that is different, rugged, water resistant, reliable but mechanical. The Zeno confirms my theory that a good watch neednââ¬â¢t be expensive. It has been accurate, reliable, I have worn it everywhere and many people have asked me if it was new old stock from the 1960s! So, yes, I do recommend the Zeno but are there any downsides.? Not really given the price tag of this watch. It is personal preference as to whether one likes the looks or not. Personally it is different but classic to my eyes; I like the design. Not forgetting that Zeno make a large range of watches of the rugged variety, both mechanical and q uartz and they would all appear to offer good value for money. I might buy more!! Thanks for reading this; I hope you enjoyed it and please bear in mind that all the contents are just my opinion based on my experiences. Galatians Bible Argument Essay - 2123 Words
I. Introduction 1:1-9 In this opening chapter, Paul begins with a formal introduction of himself. He asserts the source from whom he obtained his apostolic call and ministry from- the risen Christ and ââ¬Å"God the Fatherâ⬠(v.1). He follows with a stern rebuke of the Galatian Christians who have allowed themselves to be duped into to embracing the heretical teachings promulgated by the Judaizers. A. Salutation 1:1-5 Paul establishes his credentials forthrightly and formally. This was crucial in terms of validating the ensuing message of the epistle. His readership, as well as his critics (the Judaizers), needed to be reminded of his apostolic authority as he attacked the heresy that had taken foothold in the Galatian Christian community.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A. Paulââ¬â¢s Call 1:11-12 Paul explicates the particulars of his divine commissioning. Again, this was necessary so at to ââ¬Å"re-authenticateâ⬠his apostleship before the Galatian believers (and his dissenters). B. Paulââ¬â¢s Confirmation 1:13-2:21 1. His Early Activities 1:13-17 Paul discusses his conversion from Judaism. This is significant as he prepares to dismantle the notion that one can be justified by observing the Law. His unique claim is that he was so zealous for Judaism that he actually persecuted the church. This devotion distinguished him from his countrymen, and reputably so. It was also ââ¬Å"credentialâ⬠that qualified him to challenge the heresy of the Judaizers. 2. His First post-Christian Jerusalem Visit 1:18-24 Paul goes up to Jerusalem and meets Peter and James. Presumably, they, in addition to other Christians in the churches in Judea acknowledged Paulââ¬â¢s apostleship as being authentic (v.24). Paul is gradually mounting a convincing case against the Judaizers; they criticized him wanting to ââ¬Å"enhance his reputationâ⬠by preaching his gospel13 3. His Second post-Christian Jerusalem Visit 2:1-10 Paul re-visits Jerusalem 14 years subsequent to his initial visit to the city to meet with the apostles. The book of Galatians was written for the simple reason to clear up the truth of the gospel. Shortly after Paul left the church of Galatia, an unknown person or ââ¬Ëpeopleââ¬â¢ came to the church and led them to believe otherwise. The church of Galatia, being brand new was thrown off by the idea that they were living an immoral life, and immediately changed what they were doing to fit what the people or persons taught this. Comparison of The Matrix and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Andy and Larry Wachowskis movie, The Matrix parallels many of the characters and themes that are explored in Philip K. Dicks novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. There are five main characters or groups of people that are explored in Dicks novel. First, Morpheus, the leader of the unplugged individuals, emulates the role that the Rosen Association plays. Next, Cypher, an underhanded man, who is comparable to Rachel Rosen, a typical android, shows no empathy towards anyone. Surprisingly, Rick Deckard, an android killer and the main character, resembles the agents in The Matrix. Following Rick, the androids represent the enlightened men and women in Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It may be too much for their minds to handle. In addition, both Morpheus and the Rosen Association are constantly searching for something more. Morpheus is in search of the one, a man that is vastly superior to all others. Likewise, the Rosen Association is constantly looking for new ways to make androids more intelligent and more human- like. Ricks boss is telling him about the android that killed a senior bounty hunter, It must have been one of those new, extra-cl ever andys the Rosen Association is turning out(28). Morpheus wants to find the one who will be able to challenge the agents who police the matrix. The Rosen Association wants to create an android that is so realistic, that it is impossible to tell it apart from a human. The problem is, these creators are unable to form an android with the emotion of empathy. More specifically, Rachel Rosen, an android lacking empathy, is surprisingly consistent with Cypher, a deceitful, unplugged individual. Neither of these characters seem to have any empathy at all. In Rachels case, it is expected because she is an android. She insists on helping Rick find and retire other androids. She offers her services to Rick Deckard without wanting anything in return. Worker Reduction Free Essays
FastServe has a tough decision to make. The five employees on the list have their own sets of good and bad points. Termination of an employment needs to be handled with care to avoid facing three labor suits. We will write a custom essay sample on Worker Reduction or any similar topic only for you Order Now Being a direct marketing organization, what the company needs are people who have the skills that are useful in its kind of business. Since the company is closing down its online marketing and distribution channels, it does not need people whose skills are limited on those areas. It needs to retain people who can make positive contributions to its main business. The first consideration that FastServe must take note of is how that employee will contribute to the direct marketing business. In line with this, FastServe takes productivity into serious consideration. Next, the company must also take into account other things like compliance with the companyââ¬â¢s policy on attendance, work performance, productivity, and work redundancy. Another important thing to consider is the employeesââ¬â¢ work status, whether they are full-time, contractual, or under a labor bargaining agreement. This is a very important consideration to avoid abuse of the Employment At Will doctrine. Finally, the company must take into account the different anti-discrimination in the workplace laws . Each person on the list could file for discrimination when terminated because each one of them falls under the protected minority. Before FastServe will have to choose the final three people for termination, the company must talk to each one of them and give them time to defend themselves or improve on weak areas. Even if the layoff is not on a large scale basis and would not violate the WARN Act, or the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, it still would be humane and preventing legal actions if the company would do this act. Carl Haimes ââ¬â Retain Of all the employees on the list, Carl Haimes has the best record. His overall track record performance is above average, the highest and only one in the group. In terms of productivity, he also scored above the median, which is what the company would like to see among its employees. In terms of education, Haimes has a degree in Information Systems, a skill that is useful in marketing. He is also a qualified systems analyst, an important asset to a marketing company that needs to have marketing systems in place. Haimesââ¬â¢ computer maintenance skills and LAN installation skills for three platforms will come handy for the maintenance of the companyââ¬â¢s databases and electronic marketing portfolio. Haimes will also be useful when the company will be automating its systems. Strictly from skills and qualifications, Haimes is a clear candidate for retention. To improve Haimesââ¬â¢ chances for retention, no one has made any complaint on his behavior or work ethics. Moreover, the company has no problem with his attendance, the only one in the group. Haimesââ¬â¢ contract need not be an issue since the company would be retaining him. Haimes is gay and his sexual orientation could become a problem in conservative and traditional companies. Fortunately, FastServe, being a marketer, could not afford to be intolerant to diversity in the workplace. Diversity is what it needs to survive in a highly competitive environment. Retaining Haimes would benefit the company because of his skills, qualifications and adherence to company policies. Lastly, Haimes canââ¬â¢t be terminated because there is nothing that the company would find undesirable in his performance. Besides, Haimes could file for sexual discrimination if he gets terminated knowing that among the five, he is the most qualified and the best performer. Brian Carter ââ¬â Terminate In Brian Carterââ¬â¢s case, the company must be very careful that it wonââ¬â¢t be sued with violation against the Disability Act of 1995 since this employee has a carpal tunnel syndrome. Should Brian passed the medical tests, then, FastServe cannot terminate him because of this problem. Brian cannot continue with his employment with FastServe for various reasons even if he does not suffer from a wrist problem. First, Brianââ¬â¢s skills are highly specialized and limited to programming, which is very useful in the online distribution channels but not on direct marketing. Brian, being a techie guy, is unlikely to fit in a direct marketing kind of work even if he had a chance to train for marketing-related functions. He is a computer kind of guy and would feel more comfortable facing a workstation instead of facing people. Besides, Brian wonââ¬â¢t find it difficult to find new employment since his skills are highly sought after in todays environment. The company can terminate him at will because his expertise is not needed anymore. Second, Brian has a staggering 17 days absences in a two-month period, the highest among the five of them, and a fact that made his supervisor dislike him. He could have improved on his performance and productivity if Brian werenââ¬â¢t absent for that many days. Terminating Brian would benefit the company because he will become an underperforming asset should his employment with the company continue. Sarah Boyd ââ¬â Retain Sarah Boyd is the second employee that FastServe should retain. Sheââ¬â¢s with the company for 15 years and her status is full time. But her retention are not simply based on those two factors. Of the three remaining persons on the list, Sarah has the lowest number of days absent in a two-month period. Her overall track performance is average while her productivity is median. Sarah is capable of managing and administering an office, skills that are useful in a marketing company. Also, sheââ¬â¢s the only person who knows office procedure better than anyone else. Her prioritizing and sorting skills could become redundant when the company will automate its processes. However, it would take time for the automation to be implemented. While waiting for that time, Sarah could continue doing her job and she could be taught other skills. Besides, Sarah is 53 years old and protected under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. So long as Sarah is able and capable of doing her tasks, the company canââ¬â¢t make her retire against her will. However, should the company find the need to replace Sarah when she reaches 55 years old, FastServe could offer her an early retirement package that is attractive, fair and equitable. Nora Manson ââ¬â Terminate Nora Mansonââ¬â¢s overall performance is above average but her productivity is below median. The company is currently focused on high productivity from their employees and Nora falls short of that goal. There is also the question of Noraââ¬â¢s absenteeism that has already accumulated into two months. This is very high and would raise questions on her job loyalty. Another point against Nora is on her loyalty to FastServe. She has been directing employees to file discrimination complaints against the company she works for. Noraââ¬â¢s participation in discrimination charges against FastServe is protected by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. These acts may be in accordance to her personal values and are protected by law but these do not show loyalty to FastServe. Being an advocate of fair treatment need not mean going to the labor court right away. Nora could have acted as intermediary to prevent labor suits. On the positive side, Nora has rescued two big accounts and is skilled in handling irate and upset callers. Sheââ¬â¢s also skilled in other aspects of making sales. Despite her positive contributions, Nora is too radical to become an asset to the company. While the company cannot take it against her to be watchful of discrimination, her work shouldnââ¬â¢t have been affected by all of her non-work related activities. Her activities with her affiliation could have been the reason why Noraââ¬â¢s productivity is low. FastServe should end Noraââ¬â¢s employment so long as her contract allows the company to do that. If the employment is for a definite period of time, then the company can use her performance, productivity and absenteeism problems as the ground for her termination. However, the company should be prepared to handle discrimination complaints that Nora may file against it considering that she is an African-American and is an active member of NAACP. Jenny Mills ââ¬â Terminate Jenny Mills should also be terminated. Although the law prohibits termination of women because of pregnancy, the company wonââ¬â¢t be ending Jennyââ¬â¢s employment because of that. She is on contract and her attendance is very bad. She is also taking extra breaks that are not supposedly allowed and this make male employees complain. Jenny cannot use as an excuse her pregnancy for the 14 days of absence in a period of one month. Pregnancies are mostly difficult in the first two months and once a woman is already beyond that, her condition would be better. Jenny is already five months pregnant and there are no indications that it is a difficult pregnancy. Although she holds a degree in public relations, she has no special achievements. Her skills are also limited to answering queries from customers and troubleshooting common instruments problems. These skills can easily be taught to other persons. The company can even delegate these tasks to Sarah Boyd so that when it is time to automate, Sarah would be useful in other areas. How to cite Worker Reduction, Papers

Paddy Clarke (1181 words) Essay Example For Students
Paddy Clarke (1181 words) Essay Paddy ClarkeThe novel Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha has no authorial presence at all, yet the readergains a richer understanding of the situation than Paddy ? or any other10-year old ? could ever have. With regard to the parents break up, howdoes Doyle achieve this? There are many factors which suggest how Doyle hassucceeded in creating a triangular relationship between himself the reader andthe narrator ? Paddy Clarke ? so that the reader has a greater awareness ofthe predicament that Paddy is in. Doyles achievement is how he alternates thepoetic and realistic without once lapsing into stream-of-self-consciousness; theonly way we as readers can tell its written by an adult, is by the spelling. We see the violence in Paddys life peripherally; Doyle tells us nothing morethan what the child sees and comprehends. One of the reasons for Roddy Doylessuccess lies in creating a realistic and convincing character for a 10-year oldchild. He does this by his clever use of language, and also in how he arrangeshis sentences to convey deep emotion and feeling than any emotive languagecould: Hed hit her. Across the face; smack. I tried to imagine it. Itdidnt make sense. Id heard it; hed hit her. Shed come out of thekitchen, straight up to their bedroom. Across the face. ? P190 In thisinstance, Doyle has used short and evident sentences, to invoke a feeling of aweand confusion. The short sentences represent how Paddy is dumbstruck and lostfor words, shocked by what hes heard ? this is also highlighted when hesays here; I tried to imagine it. It didnt make sense. Here, he alsoemphatically uses onomatopoeia ? smack, ? which adds to the sense offearful respect and also Paddys child-like inte rpretation of events. Repetition is used here ? Across the face ? heading his oft-repeatedamazement. Another example of how Doyle uses repetition can be seen on pages 153and 154: I waited for them to say something different, wanting it Only now, all I could do was listen and wish. I didnt pray; there wereno prayers for this. But I rocked the same way as I did when I was sayingprayers.I rocked Stop stop stop stop ? . Doyle uses repetition to showPaddys anxiety, when he repeats ?stop. Here, Paddy is mentallycommanding his parents to stop in desperation, as he thought he had done on page42: Stop. There was a gap. It had worked; Id forced them to stop. Hebelieves that he has the power to make his parents stop arguing, as shown onpage 42, but realisation dawns when he repeatedly tells them to stop on page154, and it doesnt work. This reflects on the fact that Paddy Clarke is achild, and his inability to restrain his emotions is a facet of his youthshowing through. Another childish aspect throughout the book is how Paddy ?like other children at that age would ? spouts offhand irrelevant knowledgethats hes picked up from class or elsewhere: Snails and slugs weregastropods; they had stomach feet. The real name for soccer was associationfootball. Association football was played with a round ball on a rectangularpitch by two sides of eleven people Geronimo was the last of the renegadeApaches I learned this by heart. I liked it. Readers can relate tothis, as we can all remember when wed learnt something that wed foundparticularly fascinating at school or the library, and recited it all the time,thinking we were clever. Another reason why the reader of Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Hahas a higher understanding than is simply because the adult audience has moreexperience in family issues ? from our own experiences. We can see theviolence in his life superficially; we are told nothing more than what the childsees and comprehends. A good example of this can be found on page 95: Ma saidsomething to Da. I d idnt hear it. I looked at ma again. She was stilllooking at Da. Catherine had one of Mas fingers in her mouth and she wasbiting real hard ? she had a few teeth ? but Ma didnt do anything aboutit. Here, Paddy has given us an insight to the emotional turmoil that existsin the family, but Doyle ? again ? has not used any emotional adjectives toshow this. We can interpret what is happening from his parents actions, whichjustifiably speak louder than words. Paddys mother is staring at Da, waitingfrom him to answer, and the baby is biting into her finger, hard as Paddy says. .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 , .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .postImageUrl , .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 , .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:hover , .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:visited , .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:active { border:0!important; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:active , .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3 .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3e839ee77504ea9fd072faa7f5c83eb3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Essay Watching Video Food, Inc. EssayWe can tell that Ma is angry as her husband is not speaking to her, not by Doyledescribing her anger but by the fact that she pays no heed to the pain that thebaby is calling her ? such is the animosity that exists between the couple. Paddy cannot see this, and is wracked by confusion. This is shown a fewparagraphs later: Ma was getting out of the car. It was awkward because ofCatherine. I thought we were all getting out, that it had stopped raining. Butit hadnt. It was lashing. We can see that Ma patience has been tested and,in her ire, she leaves the car. Conformation that Paddy does not understand issealed when he asks ? Has she gone for 99s? His father doesnt reply,the silence filling the void between him and Ma ? unbeknown to Paddy, whoseinnocent question remains unanswered. We are able to read between the lines, andby doing this we can detect the silent turbulence, unlike Paddy whom is thestorys narrator. Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha is written in the first person, and istherefore devoid of the authorial omniscience and intrusiveness that would allowDoyle to relate to the reader. The fact that the story is set in a first-personnarrative with a bewildered 10-year old as the narrator allows us to fillthe gaps in P addys mind, and we can connect with Doyles imagination andin doing this he has effectively succeeded in creating a realistic world throughthe eyes of an imaginary child. When reading, the reader and Paddy develop asymbiotic existence, where Paddy is necessary to allow us to see, and hear andact as a viewpoint into his world, and our superior comprehension can observethe underlying tension that ultimately culminates in the parents divorce. Roddy Doyle writes potent novels, rooted in working-class experience. His firstthree novels, known as the Barrytown trilogy, focused on the Rabbittes, a familyof eight whose lives are a mixture of high comedy, depressing poverty anddomestic chaos. The novel Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha explores with remarkablesubtlety the development of a small boys empathy, as he simultaneously masterslanguage and discovers a new understanding of pain. Written almost entirely indialogue, his books are full of slang, colloquialisms, and vulgarisms. In thepast, Doyles raw portrayal of working class Ireland has received as muchcensure as praise in his native country. Ive been criticised for the badlanguage in my booksthat Ive given a bad image of the country, saidDoyle. The authors own view is that his job is simply to describe things andpeople as they really are. In Doyles world, the lives are tough, and thelanguage is rough, but beauty and tenderness survive amid the void of bleakness. All quotes are taken directly from the Minerva publication of Paddy Clarke Ha HaHa.
